World of Warcraft Item Upgrades Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats. Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount. Item Level The value of an item's base stats increase when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all its leveled up benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader you choose and what type of upgrade you choose to do. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be altered to upgrade an item. The level of an item is a commonly used measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips of items. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear since PvP is not available at lower levels. Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet. When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the levels of the item. It's an indicator of the item's condition and quality. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the item level. The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat. There are several theories about how the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems found in sockets increase the value of the item. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzard's actual level of the item. This is not the only factor that influences the value of an item. The location of where the item was dropped can change its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste or crit score. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances. Item Stats The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being “the most effective.” The base stats on a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modifications, which are themselves enhanced by the player's level. Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. An item that is white or grey for instance, will only be upgraded once, while an item that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher costs. Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting a special name to the item. At present, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circles arrows. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges as with other rerolling methods. Players can upgrade an item with specific stats or reroll the affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However, all items will include at least one stat within that range unless they are an exclusive item or a God Roll from a boss in a raid. Another thing that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time. Item Luck The Luck stat of a player increases the probability of obtaining items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players the possibility to obtain better equipment earlier in the game and is thus more useful in the early game as opposed to later ones, as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains. In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability, which increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing. Weapons, shields, and armor can be created or spawned with the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can be augmented by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140. Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items are available in the shops or made using the right ingredients. Item Failure Item upgrades are a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations on how much success rates can be increased and the chance of an upgrade failing cannot be greater than 100%.. The luck of an item may affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has an average success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by five percent. The upgrade overlays for items are displayed above items in the inventory. This could obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If item upgrader wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
